Joe Satriani: Live in Paris – I Just Wanna Rock (DVD)

Joe Satriani is my #2 favorite guitarist just right behind Steve Vai. I usually purchase everything he comes out with and go see him every time he comes to San Diego. But when it comes to any concert DVD, I try to rent them first from Netflix before I buy. I am so glad that Netflix had the I Just Wanna Rock DVD. I watched it this past weekend and  I strongly recommend to everyone to not purchase this one!! I had to turn it off after three songs. The complete over use of visual effects, colorization, zooming in and out and MTV like editing (switching views every second or less) caused me to quickly hit the eject button! Most of the time it looked like the video and audio weren’t even in sync! If I had Epilepsy, I would have quickly gone into a seizure.

I have met Joe and know he is a perfectionist (most great guitarists are) and I can’t believe he saw this before it was released!!! Maybe he was too busy with his other bands. So save your $15 and wait for the next one. Sorry Joe.

Rockstar Pic of the Week: Geoff Tate

The picture below is one of my favorite pictures that I have taken of Geoff Tate, lead singer of Queensrÿche. This was taken at the San Diego House of Blues on September 29th, 2011 during the song Screaming in Digital (I think).

Geoff Tate - Queensryche

I gave Geoff a copy of this picture when I meet him on the Shiprocked Cruise of November 2011. Later on the cruise he told me that he is thinking of using this picture for the label for the next release of his Insania wine. I am so excited that a musician of this caliber wants to use one of my pictures! Unfortunately my attempts to contact him after the cruise to followup on this request have been unsuccessful. If anyone know how to contact Geoff, please let me know.

Rockstar Pic of the Week: Jonny Radtke (Filter)

Jonny Radtke joined the band Filter as their guitarist in 2011. I took the picture below on the Shiprocked cruise in November, 2011. Jonny is an awesome and energetic guitarist… perfect for Filter. He might be the skinniest guitarist I have ever seen… I doubt he even wights 100lbs (well maybe with clothes on).
